Dredging
Working with members of industry, as well as the Army Corps District Office and state environmental agencies, the Exchange is committed to keeping the Delaware, Schuylkill and Christina Rivers maintained to their authorized depths. The Exchange works to bring attention to the critical role the COE Civil Works Program plays with respect to viability and competitiveness of Delaware River ports.
Harbor Maintenenance Tax
The Maritime Exchange, as a member of the Realize America’s Maritime Promise (RAMP) coalition, wholeheartedly supports this effort. This initiative requires all HMT funds collected in one fiscal year be expended for their intended purpose of maintenance dredging at our nation’s ports during the following fiscal year. Of concern is the fact that only $750 million of the $1.5 billion collected in HMT last year was appropriated for required maintenance dredging projects throughout the country. Specific examples impacting our regional port include maintenance dredging of the Schuylkill River, the Delaware River main channel from Philadelphia to Trenton, and the Port of Wilmington Harbor.
