"Are you a vessel owner or operator with discharges subject to Clean Water Act requirements for an NPDES permit and using the Vessel General Permit (VGP) as the permit to meet your obligations? If so, you may be interested in EPA’s July 27th webcast discussing the VGP.   First, EPA will discuss the new vessels e-NOI system for permittees to apply for coverage. Second, EPA will briefly discuss answers to a few key frequently asked questions about the permit. Finally, industry leaders who have direct experience implementing the VGP on various classes of vessels will discuss how they are striving to meet the requirements of the permit on board their vessels.  These practitioners will be sharing some of their VGP experiences directly with you.

The target audience for this webcast includes vessel masters, company and vessel environmental officers (or those with similar responsibilities), crew who will be directly implementing the permit, and staff of companies who will completing and submitting NOIs."

If you have any questions regarding the webcast subject matter or other questions related to the VGP, please contact EPA at commercialvesselpermit@epa.gov.

  • 06/09/09 EPA – Electronic Notice of Intent Re Vessel Discharges
    • The EPA posted its electronic Notice of Intent (eNOI) form for use in obtaining a Vessel General Permit (VGP) for continued discharges incidental to the normal operations of a vessel in waters of the United States. The VGP was officially promulgated on February 5, 2009 and came into effect on February 6. All regulated vessels were allowed to continue making incidental discharges (so long as those discharges were within the VGP limits), but a requirement was included requiring larger vessels to submit a Notice of Intent (NOI) if those incidental discharges were to continue. The day of reckoning approaches. Regulated vessels of greater than or equal to 300 gross registered tons or having the capacity to hold or discharge more than eight (8) cubic meters (2,113 gallons) of ballast water must submit a NOI so as to remain in compliance. For regulated vessels already in operation, the NOI must be submitted during the time period beginning June 19, but not later than September 19, 2009.
